Literary Arts

Below, please find below a list of courses taken by concentrators in recent years that meet the requirement to take at least one course the covers literature written before 1800 (a subsection of these classes may be given in any given semester). The number of courses that meet this requirement is substantial -- new courses are regularly added across the curriculum. If you are uncertain if a course that interests you meets the criteria, write to pgn@brown.edu -- when doing so, please provide the course name, course number and semester offered. Gale Nelson will reply to your query.

Note: any course on this list will also satisfy the concentration requirement of taking at least one course covering literature written before 1900 – the key is that the two courses must cover discrete time periods or global areas.
