Peter Carey is the author of nine novels, including Theft: A Love Story, My Life as a Fake, Jack Maggs, The True History of the Kelly Gang and, most recently, His Illegal Self. Twice winner of the Booker Prize, he has in addition received the Commonwealth Writer’s Prize and the Miles Franklin Literary Award. Writing in The Guardian, Angela Carter described his Booker Prize winning novel Oscar and Lucinda as “a novel of extraordinary richness, complexity and strength – it is a peopled world; humming, buzzing, dancing with life and liveliness; it brings the past, in all its difference, bewilderingly into our present. It fills me with wild, savage envy, and no novelist could say fairer than that.” Carey teaches at Hunter College in New York.
