Patricia Eakins

Novelist Patricia Eakins is the author of The Marvelous Adventures of Pierre Baptiste (NYU Press, 1999) and of The Hungry Girls and Other Stories. Her fiction has  also appeared in many literary journals, including The Iowa ReviewParnassusStoriaConjunctionsFiction InternationalAmerican Letters & Commentarythird bedCahiers Charles V, and The Paris Review, which awarded her the Aga Khan Prize for Fiction.  Eakins has also received the Capricorn Prize from the Writer’s Voice, the NYU Press Prize for Fiction, and the John Gardner Fellowship of the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference.  She has been the recipient of a CAPS grant, a NYA fiction fellowship, and two creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Eakins has taught fiction workshops at Trinity College in Hartford, CT,  at the New School for Social Research, and at New York University, as well as at the Woodstock Guild in Woodstock, New York, where she was writer-in-residence in 1992. She is the subject of Reading Patricia Eakins, a collection of critical essays about her work, edited by Francoise Palleau-Papin (University of Orleans Press, France, 2003).
