Susan Stewart is a literary critic and poet, whose poetry books include Columbarium, The Forrest, and Yellow Stars and Ice. She is also the author of four books of literary and art criticism, including On Longing: Narratives of the Miniature, the Gigantic, the Souvenir, and the Collection; Crimes of Writing: Problems in the Containment of Representation; Nonsense; and Poetry and the Fate of the Senses, winner of the Christian Gauss Award in Literary Criticism from Phi Beta Kappa. She is also the co-translator of Euripides’ Andromache in Oxford University Press’s New Series of Classics in Translation, as well as of the prose and poetry of the Scuola Roman painter Scipione. Recipient of a Lila Wallace Individual Writer’s Award, two grants in poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Pew Fellowship for the arts, and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and MacArthur Foundation, she is Donald T. Regan Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania.
