Robert Creeley

Writers Online

CreelyRobert Creeley joined the Brown faculty as a capstone to his long and distinguished career as poet and teacher. He taught for Brown from 2002 until his death in 2005. He was considered one of America’s treasures, a poet whose relationships spanned from his seeking mentorship from William Carlos Williams and Louis Zukofsky, to his seminal contributions to the poetics of Charles Olson and on to his own mentoring of generations of younger poets. Poet, novelist, publisher, teacher, Robert Creeley embarked upon a literary journey that carried him ever closer to the core of the human condition. His early books include The Whip and The Charm; his later works include Memory Gardens and the The Company.
