Horacio Castellanos Moya is a writer from El Salvador, author of nine novels and five short story collections. His books have been translated into nine languages. His first novel, La diáspora, won the 1989 National Prize from the Central American University in San Salvador. He worked twelve years as a journalist in Mexico City. He has also lived in Costa Rica, Canada, Guatemala, Spain and Germany, where he spent two years in a program for writers supported by the Frankfurt International Book Fair. From 2006 to 2008 he was writer in residence of the City of Asylum program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2009 he stayed in Tokyo, Japan, invited by the Japan Foundation and the University of Tokyo. Currently he is living back in Pittsburgh. His books translated into English are Senselessnes, The She-Devil in the Mirror and Dance with Snakes. New Directions will published his latest novel, Tyrant Memory, on June 2011.
