Percival Everett's novel, James, was named winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction and the 2024 National Book Award. Everett earned the AM degree in Creative Writing from Brown in 1982. Brown alumna, Gayl Jones (DA, 1970), was also a 2025 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for her book, The Unicorn Woman. Nora Lange's novel, Us Fools, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award – Lange won the American Academy of Arts & Letters First Fiction Award for Us Fools.
